Fear of losing someone close to your heart, is more than the acceptance of no-return... In safety, if ignorance was bliss, all would have been blessed forever.
Safety has been one of the closest campaigns for me. I have been driving this for may years now. Meeting and speaking with hundreds of employees
working in mines and smelters gave me confidence that "Safety" is about self-realization. We read a lot of rules, policies and procedures in books, but ultimately that inherent thought to "follow and adhering to safety" comes only from within.One day Dr Sunil Duggal Ji (the then CEO of Hindustan Zinc) said, if you practice any habit for about 90 days, it would stay with you for long years. Perhaps, this thought worked and I made it point that, no matter what, I would travel in deep mining areas to address employees working in mines and smelters to interact with them on industrial as well as road-safety.
During such sessions, I also invited families of employees. Live examples and incidents always made the conversation lively and interactive.
Safety is a lesson, you learn it in simple words or be ready to get a 'lesson of life'.
