Kailash Parbat: Adobe of Lord Shiva – the unclimbable Parbat changes position - 4-rivers originated

When the sun is setting, the mountain is said to cast a shadow, which has a striking resemblance to religious symbol of Swastika, which is considered as an auspicious sign amongst the Hindus. The four faces of Mount Kailash face the four directions of the compass. According to the Vedas, the Kailash Parbat is a link between heaven and earth. Russian scientists believe that Mount Kailash is not a mountain as it is way too perfect and symmetrical to be considered as a natural occurrence. It is astonishing to know that the Mount Kailash with an elevation of about 21,778 feet has been unclimbable till date. While the Mount Everest which is standing at 29,035 feet taller than the Mount Kailash has been conquered by over 4000 successful climbers.

The pyramid shaped sacred mountain, ‘The Mount Kailash’ is not just a mountain, it’s the holy abode of Lord Shiva which is unclimbable by a common man. A mountain above which an airplane can’t fly but birds can! Google Maps and NASA pictures reveal that the Mount Kailash is the axis mundi, world axis, center of the world, and the navel of the world.

Located in the remote South-West corner of Tibet in the Himalayan Mountain Range, Nasa scientists stated that ‘the face of Lord Shiva’ appears on the holy Mt Kailash. In Hinduism as well, it is traditionally recognized as the abode of Shiva, who resided there along with his consort goddess Parvati and their children, Ganesha and Kartikeya.

Buddhist monk Milarepa known to be a highly spiritual and accomplished man is the only man alive who has been able to climb to the summit of the sacrosanct Kailash Parbat. When he came back alive, he sternly warned other people to not climb the sacred mountain as it disturbs the God resting on the top of the peak.

Interestingly, the Kailash Parbat is also known to change its position from time to time. It has happened several times that climbers have lost their way or are misled due to a change in position of the mysterious mountain. No one has been able to solve this mystery of Mount Kailash.

Viewing from south of the ridge, one can see the Kailash Parvat's Hindu OM(ॐ) symbol. The huge ice trough and horizontal rock formations from the top of the mountain constitute this symbol. It is said that some invisible force or presence does not allow the airlines to go forward from a certain point at that height of an elevation.

At the base of the Mount Kailash lies two beautiful lakes, Lake Mansarovar and Rakshas Tal. Of the two, the Mansarovar lake which lies at an altitude of 14,950 feet, is considered the highest freshwater body in the world whereas the Rakshas Tal lake is endowed with salty water and is deprived of aquatic plants and marine life. The Mansarovar lake has a shape of the circular Sun and represents solar forces whereas the Rakshas Tal lake has a shape of the crescent moon and represents lunar forces. The sacred lake Manasarovar is considered as a pilgrimage place for thousands of devotees of Hindu and other religions. It is believed that bathing in the Manasarovar lake and drinking the holy water will cleanse all sins.

It is believed 4 rivers originated from 4 directions of Mount Kailash - Brahmaputra, Indus, Sutlej and Karnali. In the four directions of Kailash are the faces of different animals from which rivers originate. East is Ashwamukh, West has an elephant face, North has lion face, South has peacock face.
